Pure and natural homemade soap can be made with very few ingredients that we can easily find such as olive oil, coconut oil and shea butter.
Olive oil soap also known as Castile soap is one of the most traditional soaps you can make at home.
YOU WILL NEED
1) 2 x stainless steel saucepans (one small and one larger)
2) Scales
3) Stainless steel hand stirrer
4) Hand mixer
5) Thermometer (measuring from 0 to 110oC)
6) Silicone molds for soaps
7) Suitable protective clothing (eg apron with long sleeves, gloves, goggles, face mask)
COMPONENTS
1000g Olive oil
200g Coconut Oil
63g Shea Butter
168g Sodium Hydroxide
410.5g Deionized Water
HOW TO DO IT
Before we begin with the instructions, it should be noted that Sodium Hydroxide is a highly caustic substance for the skin and during the process can produce very irritating vapors for breathing. For this reason, the preparation of homemade soap should be done outdoors (eg garden)
1st STAGE - Small Kettle
Weigh the Sodium Hydroxide into a plastic glass using a plastic spoon
In the small stainless steel pan, weigh the indicated amount of water.
Slowly add the Sodium Hydroxide to the water by mixing with a stainless spoon. Caution! the temperature of the solution will rise
~~ Attention! WE NEVER put the Water into the Sodium Hydroxide~~
Stir slowly until the solid Sodium Hydroxide is completely dissolved.
2nd STAGE - Big Kettle
In the large stainless saucepan, add the weighed amounts of Olive Oil, Coconut Oil and Shea Butter.
Heat gently until the temperature reaches 40oC and stir until the butter is melted.
Final Stage - Mixing
Wait for the Sodium Hydroxide solution to cool down to 40 ° C.
Add the Sodium Hydroxide solution to the oil mixture, slowly and with constant stirring.
Continue stirring for about 15 minutes
When the mixture becomes viscous * transfer it to silicone molds.
Cover the molds and allow them to rest for a month without disturbing.
After 1 month we unpack and our soaps are ready to use!
* at this point we can add the essential oil of our choice eg lavender, rose, tea tree, grape fruit, geranium etc.
GENERAL ADVICE: When making your homemade cosmetics, make sure there arent children near you, to avoid accidents.
